The wood of the venadillo tree is used to construct furniture, and because of this, has become overexploited in some areas. The tree is small to medium in size, and grows a pear-shaped fruit containing many winged seeds. The fruit seems to defy gravity, because it grows upwards, earning it the name sky fruit. Other common names include zapaton, gateago, cobano, and Pacific mahogany.
